CURRENTLY UPDATING...... :)

A relative newcomer to the sport of triathlon/duathlon (started just 6 years ago) l believe l’ve come a long way in a short period of time with encouraging early results and a desire to challenge my own ability seeing me progress quickly.

After a little over a year in the sport I placed 3rd in my age group at the 2001 World Duathlon Championships in Italy and followed that up with a 14th place at the Powerman Zofingen. Both experiences to remember with the kudos of being the highest placed Australian in both events.

The ball kept rolling for me in Season 2002 with a win in the Victorian Olympic Distance championships, a 5 th place at the Aitoman ½ Ironman Triathlon in Tahiti and another win in the Victorian State Duathlon Championships. The end of 2002 proved an exciting one after winning the Australian qualifying leg of the Brooks Muddy Buddy mountain bike/run event. This led me to the West Coast of America for the Muddy Buddy World Champs on Catalina Island, where I managed a 3 rd place against a field of first class professional athletes. This race received large publicity in the USA and was broadcast on ESPN during January 2003.

Shin problems during the early half of 2003 saw me spend some time on the sidelines & while not achieving my goals from a trip to Hawaii for the Ironman Triathlon World Championships, it was a terrific learning experience. By the end of the year I was back on track & managed a 2 nd in the Australian & Oceania Duathlon Championships and recorded a win at the Latrobe Valley Triathlon.

After competing over the short course distance during the summer of 2003/2004 I went through the IMG Triathlon Series undefeated and was awarded the IMG Athlete of the Year for my performances as well as being named Melbourne Triathlon Club Male Athlete of the Year and the Western Suburbs Triathlon Club, Club Champion.

The good form I held through the 2003/2004 Summer continued into 2004 with an 8 th at the Western Australian Long Course Triathlon Championships and then a win at the Victorian Cycling Team Time Trial Championships with mate Mitch Anderson. This was then followed up by a 3 rd place at the Victorian Duathlon Championships and a 3 rd in searing heat at Powerman Malaysia. All this lead me towards the inaugural Busselton Ironman Triathlon where despite losing an aero bar early in the ride I still managed to set the bike course record. Unfortunately the awkward bike position put my back out and so to a top 5 finish. This remains a goal race in 2005 with some unsettled business J

Post Ironman WA I’ve again proved my worth at the short course non-drafting events where I was beaten only once, going on to take out the series again under a new naming sponsor. Switching back to long course with the end of sprint racing and an early season 6 th place at the Victorian Long Course Championships has given me promise for another great season ahead…….now knowing that I’m capable of mixing it with the best, with some luck running my way for a change a breakthrough long course duathlon/triathlon victory is close.
